Beaconsfield Historical Society Archive Project

In 2015, the Beaconsfield & District Historical Society embarked on an ambitious project, The Beaconsfield Archive Project.  This Project is cataloguing the extensive archive of photographs, newspaper cuttings, letters, maps, documents and pamphlets which have been collected by or donated to the Society over the years.  The Project has attracted around 40 volunteers who are in the process of sorting through the material, preserving and digitising it.

This was made possible by the successful award of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, generous financial support from local companies and organisations, as well as monies from the Society’s own reserves.  The Project is being run under expert guidance from The County Archivist and is expected to finish in 2017.  A website detailing the archive contents is available to the community and others and can be found by by visiting .  They will then be able to make use of the extensive archive of the Society for research and projects as well as ensuring that the wonderful history of the town is bought into greater prominence at a time of rapid change.

Visitors are welcome at any of the Society’s talks which take place throughout the winter on selected Saturday afternoons in the Fitzwilliam Centre.  The Beaconsfield Archive Project would be delighted to see new volunteers.  Volunteers meet on Wednesdays afternoons between 1 and 4 at Beaconsfield Library.
